Skillet Handle Mitt

Your Cost ONLY $18.95

I used to have a nice Iron Skillet years ago but after moving so many times the skillet got lost so I recently bought two Lodge Cast Iron Skillets. I figured I would get the 10" and 12". I seasoned them 4 times before I actually cooked anything in them and now they are well seasoned and so far no food has stuck and the more I use them the better they will become.

Our Leather Skillet Handle Mitt are constructed with 10oz Vegetable Tanned Leather for the outside and 2oz leather on the inside. The 2oz pieces of leather are sewn onto the outer piece of leather and then turned inside which gives the mitts more strength. Each mitt is hand sewn with 4oz wax thread and comes with a loop on one end to hang up your mitt so you can always find it. Comes in Brown or Black.

I recently read an article while searching for information about cast iron skillets which said "anyone who has cooked with Iron Skillets knows at least once how it feels when you grab the handle of your HOT Skillet. OUCH!."

That got me thinking... you see I work with leather so I decided to NOT be one of those who grab a HOT handle and get badly burnt so I got out my Leather and came up with my own version of a Cast Iron Handle Mitt and so far I have NOT burnt myself since I have my Leather Mitt on the counter next to the stove when I am cooking and so far I have not grabbed the HOT handle.

Many of my family and friends use Cast Iron Cookware and wanted me to make them some Leather Mitts which I have done and they all love them and use them everyday. And I was told I should bring them to the public and start selling them so that's just what I did and its been a big success.

The Mitt fits snugly but slides on and off easily and covers the entire handle.

Recommended use: Keep your Leather Handle Mitt on the stove top or counter next to your stove. Use the Mitt to move your hot skillet from Stove top to oven, from oven to stove top, move the skillet to a different position for heat distribution, flipping, stirring, taking your skillet to the table or to the sink to be cleaned or any time you need to touch the hot handle of your skillet and remove the mitt from the handle and place on stove top or counter when not needed such as simmering.

Leather Mitts should NOT be left in the oven while cooking or left on the handle of your skillet while cooking, especially on HIGH heat since that will cause the leather to dry out and crack.

IMPORTANT: When you do not need to touch the handle of your skillet remove the mitt. Anytime you need to touch the handle then insert your handle mitt onto your skillet handle. - Doing this will make your Mitt last longer.

Optimal Temperature for Cooking: Medium High Heat - Water droplets should sizzle and then hop and roll around the skillet. If the water disappears immediately after being dropped into your skillet that means your skillet is way too hot and should be cooled down a little before cooking. If water only bubbles in the pan, it is not quite hot enough and the heat should be turned up higher. NEVER put large amounts of cold water into a HOT skillet as it could cause your skillet to crack or warp.

Its NOT recommended cooking on high heat while using a cast iron skillet as cast iron holds its heat very well so very high temperatures are NOT needed.

Cleaning Your Cast Iron Skillet: When you are finished cooking you need to clean your skillet. Just slide on your Leather Mitt and take it to your sink and run very HOT water into your skillet to remove excess grease or food scraps. Use some table salt and paper towel to clean your skillet. NEVER run cold water in your skillet as it could cause the skillet to break or warp. If some food stuck to your skillet put some water in the skillet and bring to a boil for a couple minutes and lightly scrub your skillet with a stiff nylon bristly brush (Never use a metal brush as it will remove the vital seasoning surface) then rinse with HOT water. Put back on the stove to completely dry your skillet then melt some lard in the skillet and use a paper towel to completely cover the inside and outside of your skillet. Wipe off excess with paper towel and store your skillet in the over WITHOUT a lid.

NOTICE: These Leather Mitts fit Lodge Logic 10" and 12" handles. I am not sure if these Mitts will fit other handles such as Griswold, Wagner, Bayou or Cabela's Outfitter Series since I do not own anything except Lodge Cast Iron Skillets.
